About the course

The Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship involves studying the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accountancy covering financial accounting and preparing financial statements, management accounting techniques, tax processes for business and business awareness. Most will progress onto this apprenticeship following successfully having completed the Level 2 Accounts / Finance Assistant Apprenticeship, A level Accountancy or having completed the Level 2 Certificate in Accountanting. The apprenticeship will build on the foundations of bookkeeping principals and controls and principals of costing.  

You may work as an assisitant accountant in a practice or alternatively within the finance function of an organisation. An assistant accountant helps in the operation of day-to-day fiancial statements. In addition, the assistant accountant may find themselves involved regulatory financial requirements including the completion of VAT returns or assisting in the preparation of tax computations. 

During your on programme learning you will complete the professional AAT qualification and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the standard building a showcase portfolio as evidence. 

Entry requirements

A minimum of two GCSEs at Grade 5 or above. Applicants must be hardworking, reliable and motivated. As part of the interview process, Apprentices will undertake a BKSB assessment in English, Mathematics and ICT. Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements but hold relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants who do not meet the exact entry requirements may also be considered.

Assessment

The apprenticeship is assessed by 4 on programme exams with an end point assessment involving a multiple choice test and professional discussion with an independent end point assessor. The on programme exams are on the units: Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements Management Accounting Techniques Business Awareness Tax Processes for Business Each exam has a pass rate of 70% and must acheived in order to successfully complete the end point assessment.

Careers & Progression

Following successful completion progression onto the Level 4 Professional Accounting Apprenticeship could be available dependent on your role and your employer or full time roles as an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Clerk or Accountant Technician.
