Coded Welding Test (TWI)

About the course

Themis at Burnley College is a fully accredited TWI ( The Welding Institute) Training Centre, meaning we can carry out inspections of test pieces and Tutors are TWI certified to carry out training and examination of test pieces. Candidates are assessed prior to testing to determine current skill levels and estimate the timescale required to achieve the desired standard. ASME IX / BS EN ISO 9606 is the international coding standard suitable for pressure vessels. pressure pipe work and other critical applications such as bridges and structural steel work applications. Tests are usually subject to volumetric inspection such as radiography or ultrasonic examination and can cover a range of welding variables, including materials; thickness and welding positions. Testing is carried out by The Welding Institute accredited welding trainers and examiners are also CSWIP approved welding inspectors. Welders are formally retested at least every two years and welder coding certificates must be signed every six months by a suitably qualified person to confirm the welder is still producing welds of the required standard.
