About the course
The Access to HE Diploma in Science is designed to prepare students for university-level study across a wide range of science-based subjects. The programme develops the scientific knowledge, analytical ability, and study skills needed for successful progression to higher education.
Learners will engage with core concepts across biology, chemistry, and physics, while also strengthening their academic writing, research, and numeracy skills. Teaching is delivered through a combination of classroom sessions, independent study, and laboratory-based activities to help students build confidence in both theoretical and practical scientific work.
Students will complete a range of assessments such as written assignments, examinations, presentations, and scientific investigations, ensuring they are well prepared for the expectations of degree-level study.
Entry requirements
Applicants must hold GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in both English and Maths at the point of enrolment, and evidence of these qualifications must be provided. Please note that some universities do not accept Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications and may require GCSEs instead. Some science-related degrees may also require a GCSE in Science. It is the responsibility of applicants to check the specific entry requirements of their chosen university before applying.
